About Hungary

Hungary is a small landlocked country located in central Europe. Though small, it neighbours 7 countries: Slovakia and Austria to the north, Ukraine and Romania to the east, Slovenia to the west, and Croatia and Serbia to the south. Hungary is mainly geographically flat, and the great Danube River runs its course from the north to the south of the country.

From its birth in the 10th century, Hungary has always been a multi-ethnic nation. Though more than 80% of the population are Hungarian, other groups include the Roma (gypsies), Germans, Slovaks, Croats, Poles, Serbs, Armenians and many others. The most widely spoken language in Hungary is Hungarian, but Hungary is considered to be in the top 20 countries that incorporate and speak English.

Though not as well known as other European countries, Hungary is an outstanding study destination. The country is not only a member of the European Union but is also a Schengen state. Compared to other countries in Europe, living costs in Hungary are relatively low and tuition is affordable. One of the best parts of studying in Hungary is that you do not need TOEFL or IELTS to gain admission into the country’s institutions, and that a wide variety of programs are taught in English for both undergraduate and post-graduate courses. Hungarian is also taught in institutions for easy communication in the country. Degrees earned at Hungarian institutions are accepted and recognized everywhere in the European Union. Students can also combine their studies with work as long as they are more than 16 years of age. If preferred, students can also attach themselves to an apprenticeship prior to looking for a job.

Hungary is considered to be a safe country with a low crime index, further making it an excellent study destination. The cities have rich history that embodies the Hungarian spirit, not just in architecture, but in art and nature as well.
